What to Wear
With Your Pearls?
Whether you have a
thousand dollar heirloom strand of matched black pearls
or a sweetheart choker of blush-pink freshwater beauties,
you will want an outfit or two in your closet that
will give you a chanc e
to showcase your pearls and let them accent your own
looks.
Pearls are timeless. Elegance personified.
You shouldn't think they are only for formal occasions,
however, with the right outfit, you can wear your
treasures anywhere. Keeping them locked in a safe
is a horrible waste.
Of course, formal occasions present
the most natural chance to dress up and pour on the
glamour. Long evening gowns offer the perfect backdrop
for long and knotted strands, while the shorter cocktail
dresses form an excellent focal point for smaller
necklaces and teardrop pearls. Multiple strands can
be looped for varying lengths to fit almost any neckline
and dress style.
Consider an even strand of medium pearls
with the traditi onal
sweater set for cool days, or perhaps with the preppy
outfit for college interviews. A larger necklace strung
with graduated
pearls and matched earrings worn with a suit gives
a mature appearance for business meetings, and a thick
choker with that little black dress is suitable
for almost any nighttime affair.
For more casual occasions, pearls are
still a wonderful fashion statement. A fine strand
with a casual sundress and heeled sandals can go from
a walk on the beach to a dinner date. Bracelets
are lovely for wearing with jeans or a skirt and a
short sleeved top, and earrings
are always appropriate.
Consider
pearls as a gift for a niece. You can start
with a simple strand of pearls, and add two
of graduated sizes to the center each year,
finishing with a teardrop for her 18th birthday.
Encourage her to wear them often, and have them
restrung yearly when the new pearls are added.
Pearls can be worn under almost any circumstances
if they are properly cared for and stored afterwards.
Pearls can be integrated into clothing as well,
for a fancy wedding dress or short bolero jacket.
Seed
pearls are often used for this type of accent
work- you can buy them predrilled for easy incorporation
and they are inexpensive enough to replace if
needed - but real freshwater pearls
add a touch that is unbeatable. If you can¡¯t
afford using them on the main outfit, consider
an accessory such as a headband or fabric choker
with real colored pearls to make your dress
unique.

Remember to spritz on any perfume and do your
makeup before putting on your
pearls, and clean them carefully after wearing,
but don¡¯t just leave them locked in a drawer.
Pearls are meant to be worn, and now you have
some ideas to help you incorporate them into
your everyday wardrobe!
